Choose Your Camera!

Photography used to be a very complicated art with the cameras from before the digital era. Just to get a film in and out could be a very challenging experience. But with a digital camera, you can figure out how to start shooting decent pictures without reading the instruction manual first. Your phone probably has a camera function as well, but the shots you are going to take with that device won’t be nearly as good. A phone camera just takes a shot of whatever naturally gets in the picture. You do not really have an option to make photos any different with the help of extra accessories when all you are using is your phone. A digital camera will allow you to uses lenses so that you can make a detailed photo of one object, or get more in a picture than what automatically goes in it.

Those among us with no experience at all, who have a very limited budget, can find a decent compact camera for less than a hundred dollars. Of course, these cameras do not have all the features of a more expensive camera. If you are enrolled in a photography class, and you can afford to take it up one notch, do it! After all, you do not want to go buy completely new photography equipment six months into the class. But if all you are trying to do is get some great vacation memories or family reunion shots, the cheap camera can give you exactly what you want. Both the beginner’s digital cameras and the mid-range types tend to be compact. That means you can carry either one of these around with you, just in case you see the perfect opportunity to make a great shot.

The more expensive your beginner’s camera is, the more features you will have. It is, however, important to keep things simple when you are just starting out. A basic camera with a variable zoom lens, with the capability of purchasing extra lenses and accessories, is the best camera for any beginning photographer.

That is also the best way to buy a camera from a budget point of view. Equipment with a decent brand name is generally better quality. For most of us, buying a professional camera with all the accessories right from the start is way too expensive. Always inquire about the capability of adding extra features, like lenses, and other accessories later on. The best time to do that is when you are ready to bring your art to a higher photographic level.
